UEC, the oldest and largest LED epitaxy foundry in Taiwan, is a world-leading manufacturer of high performance epitaxial wafers and fabricated chips for optoelectronic and wireless communication. Johnson Matthey's hydrogen purifiers will supply ultrapure hydrogen to the growing number of MOCVD reactors at UEC's fab in Tainan. This is UEC's third fab and Johnson Matthey hydrogen purifiers are used at all three facilities.

Johnson Matthey won the award to supply eight HTG 40 hydrogen purifiers to UEC of Tainan, Taiwan. These units were designed to allow two HTG 40s to be mounted in the same frame to result in an HTG 80, which can handle a flow of hydrogen up to 60 Nm3/hr. This unit was designed specifically for UEC demonstrating JM's focus on meeting customer requirements.

The units were installed at UEC's new fab in the Tainan Science Park and help complete the first phase of this new fab. The purifiers will be supporting a large number of epi-reactors at this site used in the manufacture of LEDs.
