Pioneer Introduces Blu-ray Disc Drive

December 29, 2005... Pioneer Electronics of Long Beach, California USA has introduced one of the first Blu-ray Disc computer drives. The new device, the Pioneer BDR-101A will utilize shorter wavelength blue lasers instead of the red lasers of conventional devices in order to store up to 25 gigabytes of information on a single layer Blu-ray Disc. The device is expected to ship in the first quarter of 2006. The first generation of the product will target early adopters such as professional users and serious enthusiasts. Company News Release
